About Jean-Hugues Bretin
I started on Internet in 1998, at the time I knew I wanted to do something different, something new. My Brother was starting a cd pressing and mastering company and got me interested in what he was doing. I guess this is what gave me the idea of going toward this direction. I did a short multimedia training and started learning what websites were all about. Left Nantes, my hometown, and headed to Paris; where I knew things would be a bit ahead compare with rest of France.
From 1999 until now, I worked on many web agencies as HTML coder : Babel, Machination, Business Lab, Business interactif, etc.
Since 2007, I’m SEO Manager, and my job is entirely dedicated to improve visibility and search engine’s best rankings for clients I work for.
I feel like internet is an amazing media, offering what every other media has in one single piece. This is probably why it doesn’t seem to have a start nor an end. In this never ending story, you have to understand how every aspect of a website has an impact on visitors and how it is perceived. I don’t feel like I should see myself only as a SEO manager, but also I have the responsibility of focusing on user experience, accessibility, and usability, focusing on web standards.
I am a strong supporter of the concept of “Findability” created by Peter Morville and brilliantly supported by Aaron Walter in his book “Building Websites Findable“. I have a good experience of how work search engines, this gives me a solid advance to perform a great presence on the web today and tomorrow.
Autonomous, curious and motivated, I have also a great experience in organization and processes in project mode and teamwork, practiced diligently in several web agencies for over 10 years.

Here we are!
Every once in a while you start wondering about your work, the way you do it, what should be done instead, what could have been done…
In fact in doing so you are also focusing on whom you are, you and your job.
As an html coder i worked 9 years for web agencies.
I made hundreds of websites, lines and lines of code, trillion kilos of tags. After a while you are getting a bit confused, yes things have gotten better, internet is now a bit civilized in the way pages are built, but then what else ?
You still have to work with kids who came out of their business classes a month ago, and most of the time they have no idea about what really a website means. You still have deadlines that are not, ugly storyboards if you are lucky, badly done PSDs…
I’ve always thought a website with no visibility is a concert with no crowd attending.
It comes a time when you simply had enough. Today everyone is aware of what is going on with html coding and agencies, they are simply getting the job done elsewhere. (Vietnam, India, Poland, Madagascar.)
What else, now?! (No, George on the way, that’s for sure!)
Making your website alive and keeping it first page in search engines is my goal.
I’ve always thought a website with no visibility is a concert with no crowd attending. It could be great… but it turns out to be sad.
In doing this website, I wish to give transparency to my thoughts about this job of mine, as a growing seo manager.
